Sophia was born in Los Angeles, raised in London, and holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from New York University.

Prior to building her private practice, Sophia provided counseling to students at a large public high school, and offered both case management and group therapy at a psychiatric hospital. Sophia has extensive experience working as a therapist in residential, inpatient, outpatient and educational settings. She also served as a primary therapist for young adult males in a long-term, highly structured treatment center for substance use. Sophia has also provided educational talks at local high schools and often serves as a consultant to other therapists.

In addition to providing private therapy, Sophia supervises Associate Social Workers and most recently worked as a counselor at a small independent high school. Sophia is a Master level reiki practitioner, yoga instructor, expert consultant for Hollywood, Health and Society, and volunteers for several animal rescue organizations. Sophia obtained certifications in Animal-Assisted Therapy from The Animal Behavioral Institute, as well as a sex therapy certification from California Institute of Integral Studies. Additionally, Sophia’s first book on adolescent anxiety will be published in 2025.

Sophia’s theoretical orientation:

Sophia received her supervisory training under Dr. Martha Koo, M.D. While Sophia’s training stems from a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic framework, she also incorporates the importance of culture, gender, race, and family background into her practice. Depending on the needs of her clients, Sophia will frequently utilize aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in her work. Sophia is holistically oriented and considers both the mind, body and spirit when working with clients. As a trained fine artist, Sophia may also integrate creative modalities and art therapy into her sessions.
